Stereological Quantitation of Leydig and Sertoli Cells in the Testis from Young and Old Men
نویسندگان
چکیده
One of the newer stereological methods, the optical fractionator, was applied to the study of the effects of ageing on the human testis. The estimated total number of Sertoli and Leydig cells per testis in men younger than 30 years were 430×10 (CV = SD/mean = 0.35) and 117×10 (CV = 0.53), respectively, while in men older than 50 years the estimated total Sertoli cell number was 266×10 (CV = 0.46) and the mean Leydig cell number 83×10 (CV = 0.53). The difference between the number of Sertoli cells in men younger than 30 years compared with men older than 50 years was close to statistical significance (p = 0.052) while no differences was found in total Leydig cell number (p = 0.22).

Background: Increases in the survival rate of men treated with chemotherapeutic drugs and their desire to have children precipitate concerns about the effects of these drugs on germ cells. This study performed to evaluation of protective effects of crocin in oxidative stress induced by cyclophosphamide (CP) on testis. Materials and Methods: Three groups (6 mice in each) of adult mice were used....

متن کاملImmunohistochemical Localization of Ghrelin in Testicular Tissues of Holstein Bulls
Ghrelin, a 28-amino acid acylated peptide, was identified as the endogenous ligand for the growth hormone (GH) secretagogue receptor and its role in reproduction has recently been established. It is believed that the site of ghrelin expression in testes may indicate its role in local regulation. This study investigated the immunohistochemical (IHC) localization of ghrelin in Holstein bull testi...
متن کاملThe Ultrastructural Changes of the Sertoli and Leydig Cells Following Streptozotocin Induced Diabetes
Objective(s) This investigation was conducted to evaluate the effects of diabetes on the structure and function of testicular tissue. Materials and Methods Diabetes was induced in male adult rats by a single intraperitoneal injection of streptozotocin. Body and testicular weight, hormonal analyses, histological and ultrastructural analyses were measured. Results The body and testicular we...
متن کاملPlasma and testicular testosterone levels, volume density and number of Leydig cells and spermatogenic efficiency of rabbits.
Plasma and tissue testosterone concentrations were determined by radioimmunoassay in 12 eight-month-old sexually mature New Zealand White rabbits and evaluated for possible associations with spermatogenic efficiency as well as with volume density and number of Leydig cells. Testicular tissue was processed histologically and histometry was performed in order to quantify germ cells, Sertoli cells...
